A Restream alternative that runs on your own machine

Cloud services take your signal, relay it from their servers and charge you for it. Muxlyve does the relaying from your PC: no watermark, no third-party bandwidth and no monthly fee per hour streamed.

Cloud vs. local relay, point by point

CriterionCloud serviceMuxlyve
WatermarkCommon on free plansNever, on any plan
Where the relay happensThe provider's serversYour own machine
Upload bandwidthA single upload to the serviceOne upload per active platform
Billing modelMonthly subscription, sometimes per hourMonthly, yearly or lifetime license
Re-encodingFrequent (hurts quality, adds latency)None: relays with -c copy
Third-party dependencyIf their service goes down, so does your streamYou only depend on your own connection
Signal privacyYour video passes through a third partyGoes straight from your PC to each platform
Unified chatIncluded on paid plansIncluded (Twitch and Kick)
Works without stable internetNoAlso no: relaying needs enough upload

To be fair: local relaying uses your upload bandwidth once per active platform. If your upload is limited, a cloud service that uploads only once may suit you better. Muxlyve wins when you have upload headroom and don't want a subscription or a watermark.

When each one makes sense

A cloud service suits you if…

  • Your upload can't handle several platforms at once.
  • You stream from networks you don't control (events, coworking, hotels).
  • You need the stream to keep running after you shut your machine down.
  • You want a web studio, remote guests and cloud recording in one product.

Muxlyve suits you if…

  • You have enough upload and don't want to pay for someone else's bandwidth.
  • You don't want a third-party watermark over your content.
  • You'd rather buy a lifetime license than pay a subscription forever.
  • You don't want your signal passing through someone else's servers.
  • You already use OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, vMix or N.Air and don't want to change your workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Does Muxlyve replace OBS?

No. Muxlyve is neither an encoder nor a plugin: it receives the RTMP signal OBS (or Streamlabs, XSplit, vMix, N.Air) already produces and relays it to several platforms at once. You keep the software you already use.

Does quality drop when streaming to 4 platforms?

No, because Muxlyve doesn't re-encode: it relays the same signal with -c copy and minimal CPU load. What you do need is upload bandwidth for every active destination.

How much upload do I need?

Roughly your bitrate multiplied by the number of active platforms. At 6,000 kbps across 3 platforms, about 18 Mbps of stable upload.

Does it work with TikTok?

Yes, by pasting the RTMP key TikTok gives you. Note that TikTok regenerates that key roughly every 2 hours — a limitation of their platform, not Muxlyve.

What happens if a platform drops mid-stream?

Muxlyve reconnects it automatically without cutting your other destinations, and warns you with a system notification.

Is there a one-time payment license?

Yes. Alongside the monthly and yearly plans there's a one-time lifetime license.
